B.Tech. (Electronics & Communication Engineering)

The Electronics & Communication stream represents two fastest growing technology areas in view of exponential growth taking place in the communication networks in the country. Electronics & Communication Engineering is an engineering discipline which uses the scientific knowledge of the behavior and effects of electrons to develop components, devices, systems, or equipment (as in electron tubes, transistors, integrated circuits, and printed circuit boards) that uses electricity as part of its driving force. Both terms denote a broad engineering field that encompasses many subfields including those that deal with power, instrumentation engineering, telecommunications, and semiconductor circuit design amongst many others. The basic motive behind the Department of Electronics Engineering is to impart high quality education and spawn eminent graduates to carry out leading-edge research in these disciplines of Engineering.


The objective of the course is to give sufficient knowledge in knowing semiconductor devices like Gunn diode, IMPATT diode, Laser diode, Solar cell, PIN diode, FET, IGBT, SCR, Thyristor which are building blocks in the design of Digital Circuits like Microprocessors etc. The course objective is to understand the basic concepts for Wireless technology to send information to remote locations which are located globally by combining the skill and knowledge of space technology with microelectronics industry. This provides a scope for all sorts of Satellite Communication.


The scope of the course extends to Fibre Optic Communication, Radar, Radio Astronomy, Navigation etc.

The need for professionals with a background of Electronics & Communication is always on the rise. Those with problem solving skills are the ones in demand. Professionals with these skills are sure to land up with successful careers in the years to come. Electronics & Communication will thus cater to the above needs by providing with theoretical and practical knowledge and with a goal to equip the students face the vast world of technology. Therefore, the students opting for this branch have to not only become experts in their respective field but to understand that the work calls for proper handling and interacting with foreign clients.

In addition to University specified syllabi, the students are exposed to latest emerging areas to make them employ worthy Learning and teaching methodology is adopted to suit every student individually. All this aims to develop an outstanding engineering graduate with all round personality and employability. Regular lectures by guest and visiting faculty from industry and relevant fields give an additional advantage to the students. Standards books of good publishers give them wider exposure. Improvement is taken as a continuous process for better results. Thrust areas and key result areas of the Information Technology Department are well defined and dynamically modified as per requirements. Computer Science & Engineering Department was established in 2007.

  • Minimum 60% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th)
  • Minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th)
  • Non Examination Pathway – admissions through Board Merit / JEE Mains Score (Up to 20% of Seats)
  • For Board Merit : Minimum 80% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and minimum
  • 80% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th class)
  • For JEE Mains Merit : Minimum 60% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and
  • minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th class).JEE
  • Mains cut off for applying for a UPES B.Tech program is 105

Realizing that faculty is the soul of an educational institution, the management lays special emphasis on the recruitment and selection of the faculty. We are proud to have a lucrative combination of senior, expert faculty members who are well qualified, young, energetic and dedicated. As a policy, mainly full time faculty is employed. However guest lecturers are arranged from the industry and R&D organizations to supplement the efforts of the standing faculty and bringing industry-academics interface. In tune with the vision and mission of the Institute, the Electronics & Communication department has best of the core faculty members which includes Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors.

The Electronics & Communication department is equipped with various laboratories including the Central Computer Center, which provides all the computational facilities ranging from computing area to high-end programming and Internet access round the clock. The air conditioned Computer laboratories have over 700 Computer systems with latest Core 2-duo processor, all extensively networked with a rich collection of software. Internet facility through dedicated leased lines & RF links enables the students to reach further beyond the information given in the books. The department has licensed software good enough to fulfill the needs of the students as per syllabus in various labs.
